There would be few amongst us who have seen Tare Zameen Par and left the cinema hall with our eyes dry. While this movie has brought the trauma of a child with learning disability to the forefront, there are many people who have been silently worked for Children with special needs. Dr. Samlr Dalwal, is one such person who after completing his MD (Pediatrics) as well as DCH, DNB and FCPS started his practice in his own private clinic and went on to found the Dalwai Nursing Home for Children. In the course of his work he realized that a number of children are affected either in motor or speech development or have difficulties in academic performance or behavior and social integration. These children are in need of timely detection, intensive, regular and developmentally appropriate therapy to achieve their maximal potential. These reflections sowed the seeds for New Horizons Child Development Centre, which is dedicated to the optimal development of all children; with a vision that 'Every child can do better'. Pursuing his dream in February 2003, Dr. Dalwai founded New Horizons Child Development Centre (NHCDC)
In February 2006, Mrs. Supriya Sule Honourable Member of Parliament and Managing Trustee of Pawar Public School had an occasion to visit New Horizons Child Development Centre. Dr. Samir Dalwai, Pediatrician and Director of New Horizons Child Development Centre discussed with Mrs. Supriya Sule the dearth of multidisciplinary centre catering to developmental needs of children in Mumbai. Mrs. Sule reed with this and suggested that one such centre should be started in her school in Bhandup. This sowed the seed for multidisciplinary therapeutic intervention for opmentai, academic and behavioural needs of dren for the first time in a mainstream school in Central suburbs of Mumbai.
The branch of New Horizons Child Development Centre at our school was inaugurated on 12th July 2008.
